History of Communication

CMS 3200


A chronological survey of major types of media and human
communication, from pre-history through the present day,
focusing upon the interrelationships between communication
media and their larger social and cultural contexts. The
history of communication leading to English-language media
is the main focus, but comparisons and contrasts with other
world communication systems will also be explored.
Recommend: Completion of Areas C and E.3 (preferably
HIST 1110).
Pre-Requisites:
CMS 2010 with a minimum US grade of C
AndCMS 2100 with a minimum US grade of C
AndENGL 1102 with a minimum US grade of C Or
ENGL 102 with a minimum UG grade of C
AndCOMM 1110 with a minimum US grade of C Or
SPCH 121 with a minimum UG grade of C Or
SPCH 101 with a minimum UG grade of C

Co-requisites:
